WatchWatch
An experiment I did a few weeks ago in Motion to try out particle systems and just generally to get the feel of the program down. The typeface of the T is called Bramley and was taken from a screenshot and is I think in this case reasonably fair use to use.

Text Differences
Just comparing two standard body fonts that come with Adobe’s creative suite and OS X I’m amazed at how the tiny differences matter when you blow them up. Just a small thing like the thickness of ligatures can completely change the look of something, and the bulk of the actual letters can make something delicate seem chunky so quickly.

Pork Demon
Excerpt from Invader Zim by Nickelodeon Click on the image for a quickly animated version. I love the way the smoke from behind the giant pig demon moves, trying to animate something similar.

Iron Man Ending Sequence
End titles from Iron Man, 2008 Two images from the credit sequence of Iron Man, before the main title roll. I thought they were pretty and in my search for interesting motion graphics, worth uploading here. Constructed, according to wikipedia by the always impressive Industrial Light and Magic.

Animando
Still from Animando by Marcos Magalhães, 1987. Looking at more animation as some added incentive to keep working on my own. This is the work of an internship in Canada and something that I remember seeing at the Tate many years back. It must have taken him months. Original - http://www.nfb.ca/film/animando_english/

Nazi Hypnotoad
Voices of the Swamp, 1936 by John Heartfield A picture soon to go up at Tate Modern, a rather fine poster mocking the Nazis. I thought it had something of the Hypnotoad from Futurama about it, either way it’s a rather wonderful image.

Barcelona Book Fair
Some work I did last year, but that didn’t make it to the Arts Libris Book Fair in Barcelona due to the Icelandic ash cloud, this time in book form rather than the big prints that were there before. I’m tentatively asking for €15 for each of the 4 copies and not really expecting to sell any of them, even if I did the cost of the paper and printing will mean I made a loss. It’s nice to think that...

Title Sequence Analysis for ‘Elektra Luxx’
Elektra Luxx from SMOG.tv on Vimeo. While looking up interesting credit sequences to find something to use as inspiration I stumbled upon this, it’s quite an interesting explanation of how they created what is a really visually gripping title sequence. It’s mildly sexy so probably don’t look at it if your work frowns on subliminal nipples. Original Blog post here: Elektra Luxx

A Question of Type
Experiments with Hoefler Ornaments It’s proving difficult to come up with a typeface that I’m happy with to use for titling and orniamentation for my Red Riding Hood animation. While Hoefler Text (the free Apple one, sadly not the out of my range H & FJ updated one which I see is still not yet OpenType) has some that can be made into interesting patterns I’m still not sure that I like them...

Animation Ideas - Monochrome
I’ve been working on getting the look of my animation at the moment and while I’m not really there yet I think I’m getting closer. The first page so far has been something of a marker test, in a Film Noir / Limbo esque style.
